Job Description:
The School of Sciences and Engineering at the American University in Cairo is pleased to announce an opening for a one-year renewable-term faculty position within the Department of Architecture at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to start Fall 2025. The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels while having a credible record of research and providing services in his/her field of specialization.
Applicants must have experience in the sustainability in architecture and environmental design, focused on environmental sustainability, with adequate knowledge related to the social, cultural and economic consideration, and the application of environmental architecture and design in sustainable development agendas. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to exploring the role of sustainable architecture and ecological design within the program. S/He is also expected to establish and pursue a research focus in the above-mentioned areas, in both methodology and practice; to contribute to teaching environmental controls and building performance courses, sustainability-focused design studio; and to ensure that students acquire the appropriate technical knowledge required to deliver coherent and sustainable design proposals. The technical knowledge may cover but is not limited to building energy performance, daylight analysis and simulation. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Master of Science Degree in Architecture on methodology, theory, and practice, along with other members of the department, and collaboratively across the school.
The Department of Architecture is rapidly expanding its programs and facilities. The MSc in Architecture is developed to bridge between architecture and other disciplines with a focus on both the liberal arts and advanced technology. The departmental facilities include state-of-the-art computing facilities, a building science lab that houses a full-size environmental chamber, and other related research resources such as a Heliodon, a weather station as well as a robotic fabrication lab. In addition, the School has ongoing activities in the areas of Sustainable Development, Environmental Engineering, broadly defined, Environmental Health, and a Center for Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability (CARES).
