Job Description:
The Diesel Mechanics Instructor position is an 11-month, tenure-track faculty position with an anticipated start date of August 2025. This position is responsible for providing classroom instruction in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety regulations and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing course content, holding office hours, maintaining records, and ensuring the course standards, training requirements, and objectives are being met and other requirements as listed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The diesel mechanics program will prepare students for employment as bus, truck and diesel engine mechanics, diesel mechanics helpers, mobile heavy equipment mechanics, construction equipment mechanics, industrial truck mechanics. The content includes but is not limited to maintaining and repairing diesel engines and electrical systems; reconditioning diesel fuel injection systems; overhauling diesel engines; and performing diesel engine preventive maintenance. This position reports to the Department Head, Applied Technology and Professional Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an associate degree in diesel mechanics and two years of relevant work experience or a certificate in diesel mechanics and six years of relevant work experience in diesel mechanics occupations.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
SALARY RANGE: $50,060.00 - $56,060.00 for an 11-month contract with a bachelor’s degree or less.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification. Post-secondary teaching experience preferred.

Faculty members hired with less than three years of related experience shall be placed on the salary schedule as follows:
164 Day Base (2025 - 2026)
- Bachelor's or Less - $39,500
- Master's - $42,250
- Master's Plus - $44,000
- Doctorate - $47,000
All degree classification levels add the appropriate dollars (up to $6,000) for years of credited experience to the annual salary figures above to determine entry salary.
