Job Summary
The Research Science Assistant I is responsible for assignments that require technical knowledge to modify or adapt routine procedures, under a supervisor's direction, to meet special research requirements. This role assists with assignments that require a basic working knowledge of engineering or scientific methods, such as research, design, or experimental testing.
This is a grant-funded, temporary position with an expected end date of 8/31/2027. This position may be extended or shortened based on availability of funds and/or departmental need.
Core Responsibilities
- Collects and compiles data, computes quantities, extends estimates, and makes and records observations/measurements.
- Sets up and operates equipment as directed by the supervisor.
- Assists in the design of equipment.
- Writes simple computer programs and prepares technical reports.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, Vocational Training, or Apprenticeship in a related field.
- One (1) year of related work experience.
- This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Working Conditions
- Usual laboratory, office, or outdoor field work. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment or materials. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events. Workdays, areas, and work hours may vary depending on the department's needs.
Physical Demands
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
This position is contingent upon a successful background check. Verification of a valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) may be completed as applicable. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
