Administrative Appointment End Date (if applicable): Position Summary:The University of Idaho College of Engineering welcomes applications for a tenure-track assistant, or a tenured associate or full professor in industrial engineering and can be located in one of the following locations: Idaho Falls, Moscow, Boise, or Coeur d’Alene. Exceptional candidates may be eligible for a tenured appointment. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in the college and department bylaws.
Successful candidates are expected to have demonstrated a strong record of innovative, collaborative, and visionary engagement in the areas of industrial engineering or engineering management. Applicants with expertise in advanced manufacturing, AI and machine learning, or industrial robotics/automated systems are especially invited to apply. They must have a Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering, engineering management, or a closely related field and will demonstrate a strong commitment to impactful research and teaching and advise/mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
The selected candidate will be expected to develop a strong research program funded by external grants from federal and state agencies as well as collaboration with industry. The position is in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Industrial Management and may be located on the main campus in Moscow or one of the campus centers (Boise, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Falls). This new hire will join the department in developing new undergraduate and graduate programs in industrial engineering to complement existing programs in engineering management, technology management, and industrial technology (soon-to-be engineering technology). Applicants with a proven track record of working with industry partners to develop applied research projects or advanced manufacturing solutions are particularly encouraged to apply. Research opportunities abound in the areas of advanced manufacturing, critical infrastructure systems, and microelectronics.
Unit/Department Summary: The Department of Nuclear Engineering and Industrial Management was formed during the summer of 2020 by bringing together graduate degree programs of nuclear engineering, engineering management, technology management and an undergraduate degree program of industrial technology (changing to engineering technology summer 2025 onwards). The department is located in Idaho Falls and has a close relationship with the Idaho National Laboratory

Required Qualifications:- An earned doctorate in Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management or a closely related field.
- Written and oral communication skills as evident by research publications, presentations, and teaching proficiency
- Leadership experience in building collaborative relationships among multiple stakeholders
- Ability to obtain a DOE security clearance
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Idaho within 5 years of hire
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience in developing and leading collaborative research and teaching
- Experience in mentoring students and junior professionals
- Eligibility for appointment to the rank of associate or full professor
- Demonstrated experience in program development and assessment
- Effective and comfortable in developing relationships with businesses to support Idaho workforce development and economic growth goals
- Demonstrated industrial experience, including leadership in engineering teams or projects
- Ability to obtain a joint appointment with Idaho National Laboratory
