Steam Camp Counselor
Camp Dates will be from July 15 - 31, 2024 - the position will be full-time during these weeks!
There will be training starting June 1, 2024, Students must pass an extensive background check and complete full Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED training.
The hourly rate of pay: $15 - $20.00 per hour.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Governors State University (GovState) STEAM Camp Counselor will assist in developing, coordinating, leading or directly supporting applied science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics-related activities for students enrolled in GovState's STEAM Camp in conjunction with GovState faculty, students, alumni, volunteers and staff.
The STEAM Camp Counselor leads children through a variety of STEAM-related activities taught by GovState faculty, student and community volunteers.
- Engages children in interactive STEAM activities including science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics-related programs.
- Positive, upbeat, courteous, cooperative, customer service orientated, and interested in the fields of education particularly for middle, to older children. Target ages 10 - 17.
- Experience with working with children with disabilities.
- Ability to tolerate loud noise.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, use hands, objects, tools, or controls.
- Ability to participate as a chaperone on a school bus.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to lift and carry at least 25 pounds.
- Access to reliable transportation
- Desire to learn new skills, information, and computer systems.
- Ability to approach challenges creatively.
Desired Qualifications:
- STEAM Camp Counselor should be motivated with an interest and aptitude in teaching/ supporting the delivery of STEAM-related content and mentoring children ranging in age from 10 to 17, in small and medium-sized group formats through a variety of indoor and outdoor lab, field trips and practical activities.
- Ability to effectively develop and deliver content in a learning environment with supporting content creation software.
- Evidence of subject matter expertise in one or more relevant STEAM Camp disciplines (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics).
- Strong English skills and writing skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and accurate attention to detail
