MSE Tenure-Track and Tenured Positions 2024 - 2025
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Open Date: Oct 09, 2024
Deadline:
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is engaged in an aggressive, multi-year hiring effort for tenure-track professors whose interests are aligned with the School of Engineering and Applied Science's strategic plan.
Applicants from all materials-related research areas are invited to apply, especially those with expertise in quantum and semiconductor materials. Penn Engineering has signature initiatives in Energy and Sustainability, Quantum devices and engineering (QUIEST) and Data Science, as well as significant related facilities at the Singh Center for Nanotechnology and the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter.
We especially welcome candidates with diverse experiences and perspectives, who will enhance the education, training and mentorship of our students and enrich our intellectual community.
Penn Engineering strongly supports dual career couples, and we welcome and encourage inquiries about dual career assistance (for academic and non-academic opportunities) at an early stage of the recruitment process.
Materials Synthesis for Advanced Devices: The development of novel materials and innovative synthesis techniques is crucial for advancing electronic, optoelectronic, and quantum technologies. We seek candidates with expertise in materials synthesis, encompassing both bulk and thin film materials, with applications in cutting-edge device platforms. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: precision synthesis of bulk crystals, epitaxial growth of complex heterostructures, novel thin film deposition techniques, scalable methods for producing low-dimensional materials, and autonomous/AI-driven approaches to materials discovery and optimization. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in controlling material composition, structure, and properties at multiple length scales to enable next-generation devices. We are particularly interested in researchers who can bridge fundamental materials science with practical device applications, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations across electronics, photonics, and quantum engineering. Candidates should have a strong background in materials synthesis methods and a vision for how their synthesis approaches can address current challenges in device performance and functionality, and potentially accelerate materials innovation. Prof. Eric Stach chairs this search committee. Candidates are encouraged to apply early in order to be given full consideration. Review of applications has a target deadline of November 22, 2024.
