Scope of Job:The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) seeks applicants for two faculty positions in the broad area of Electrical Engineering. The preferred two sub-disciplines include 1. Electric Power and Energy Systems, 2. Electronics and Digital Communications. Successful candidates are expected to start in the Fall 2025 semester. The ECE department at UTRGV has an enrollment of over 900 undergraduate students in the ABET-accredited BSEE and BSCE undergraduate programs and 36 master students in the MSE program.
Successful candidates are expected to show a strong commitment to teaching excellence, mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and conducting research and publishing scholarly materials at two main campuses where the ECE department is located. UTRGV is moving towards being Carnegie Classified as an R1 university soon, and faculty being considered for these positions will be evaluated on their ability to support this effort. The College of Engineering & Computer Science has an interdisciplinary PhD program in Materials Science and Engineering and several centers in which the successful candidate can participate as appropriate: the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Cyber Systems (CAMICS), the Center for Nanotechnology, the Center for Multidisciplinary Research Excellence in Cyber-Physical Infrastructure Systems (MECIS), the University Transportation Center for Railway Safety (UTCRS), and the US Department of Energy Industrial Training and Assessment Center. Minimum Qualifications:Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related field from an accredited university
(at least conferred before the start date of September 1, 2025). Candidates at the Assistant Professor level will be considered based on demonstrated potential to enhance the teaching, and research capabilities of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Applicants must have demonstrated evidence of potential for independent research, skill in interdisciplinary research and collaboration, along with the potential to develop an outstanding research program and high-profile publications as well as a successful record of extramural funding.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:Applicants must also have a demonstrated ability (or a well-designed plan) to develop and maintain a funded research program and to lead multidisciplinary collaborative projects, as well as the ability to collaborate with faculty colleagues. The successful candidate will demonstrate having (or potential to) achieved excellence and balance in teaching, research and service, collaboration with faculty across disciplines, and the ability to involve undergraduate students as well as graduate students in research activities.
Preferred Qualification:The highest consideration will be given to applicants who have expertise in the areas of 1. Electric Power and Energy Systems, and 2. Electronics and Digital Communications. Postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Additional Information:UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
