Salary Range: $35,000- $45,000/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
Hours: 40 hours per week.
Research Science Associate I: non-exempt.
Research Science Associate II: exempt.

Essential Functions
Job Summary
Research Science Associate I
Performs entry level professional engineering and scientific research assignments related to a particular field of work. Responsible for evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering or scientific techniques used in routine research.
Research Science Associate II
Perform professional level engineering and scientific research assignments. Responsible for evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering or scientific techniques used in routine research.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain sterile cell culture of human and non-human primate pluripotent stem cells, fibroblasts and peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
- Perform routine quality control on cell cultures including immunocytochemistry, quantitative reverse transcription PCR, and endpoint PCR.
- Ensure that all equipment, plasticware and reagents necessary for experiments are on hand and order if necessary.
- Place orders for the Stem Cell Core and track their delivery, prepare receiving reports and close out unnecessary purchase orders.
- Collects and records data in a laboratory notebook and performs mathematical tasks involved in summarizing results of experiments (may include statistical, numerical or multivariate analysis).
- Continuing education familiarizing themselves with the primary literature and taking advantage of the learning opportunities on campus and from professional societies (e.g., COREdinates, ABRF).
Required Qualifications
Research Science Associate I
- Bachelor's degree in the field of assignment.
Research Science Associate II
- Master's degree from an accredited institution in the field of assignment.
Both Levels
- One year of related research experience.
- Experience with basic engineering or scientific equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years working with human and/or non-human primate pluripotent stem cells.
- Experience reprogramming human and non-human primate primary cells into pluripotent stem cells.
- Experience with genome editing using CRISPR/Cas9 or other tools.
Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities
- Basic engineering or scientific equipment ordinarily used in college laboratory work.

Working Conditions
- The UTSA Stem Cell Core is a BSL-2 facility. Additionally, hazardous reagents and equipment are present and will be used by the research scientist associate I-II. The successful candidate must be aware of the dangers, use typical laboratory safety and maintain compliance with all safety trainings.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Reaching overhead, at or below shoulder level.
This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
